This was special. I’m looking at doing something like this for my birthday next month. It’s beautiful to reflect on the music that has shaped who we are.

Thanks Alex, I appreciate the kind words and the immense support you have shown this piece so far. It took me a while to find the right concept but, based on your feedback, it looks like it’s paid off. Looking forward to reading your reflections soon on the music that made us 🙏🏾

wow! I never paid much attention to music’s ability to mark time like this. You make music so personal and heartfelt in your writing, it’s beautiful. And bow wow really was the coolest kid, crazy how time works.

Thank you so much for reading and the kind words! The '7 Tracks' format helped with picking songs that flowed somewhat chronologically but music has always been a marker of time for me. The best moments of your life usually have a soundtrack

John, this was a great read and I am 1000% here for this. I'm also a kid of the 90's and can relate to so many of these songs. I remember watching "Sky is the limit" video and feeling connected to Biggie, Novacaine and Nostalgia Ultra hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm still on a frantic search to find Franks version of "American Wedding" my favorite song from that project.

It's a pleasure to find another writer who shares a deep love for music, but particularly Hip hop., and mixtapes. I can't wait to read more of your post!

Lovely read, John! I appreciate the nostalgia of this post. It took me down memory lane and the very specific way our gen experienced music as we came of age. Love all these selections…The Bow Wow one takes me back to the excitement of kiddie millennials having their first big rap star? I think he was. It’s still a banger!

Thanks Natelegé, yeah he definitely was! I know that there was some talk early on between him and Romeo but Bow Wow was the clear favourite during that era (as evidenced by the below). Glad that you enjoyed it
